Chapter 2236: Union of nations
Chapter 2236: Union of nations
"I’m sure that you all know why we have gathered here."
There was a heavy mood that hung over this room when the one leading the meeting said this.
Everyone that had been sitting at the table naturally knew why they were gathered here because this wasn’t a meeting that one could attend unless they were qualified to do so.
Not to mention that the qualifications to join this meeting were quite strict.
They were the current leaders of this world.
All of them were the leaders of their respective countries, people that normally would have been too busy to gather for a meeting like this.
If it wasn’t for how urgent this matter was, they never would have all been gathered in the same room like this.
Just the fact that they were here showed how seriously they took this.
But then again, it was hard to treat it seriously when it was foretold as the end of the world.
"What was that thing?"
No one answered when this question was asked.
After all, there wasn’t a single person that was able to answer this question since the thing that they were discussing was not something that they had ever seen. It was not something that their minds could even wrap itself around.
But they knew that they had to think of a way to deal with this.
That black ooze thing had swallowed everything that had come in contact with it.
With the way that it continued to spread, it even seemed like it would have swallowed the entire world if it could.
The only thing that had been able to stop it was...
After this question was posed, everyone turned to look at the pope that was sitting in one of the inconspicuous positions.
Normally a pope of a religion wouldn’t have been allowed in this kind of meeting, but they had to include the pope this time.
The only thing that had worked against that black ooze was the holy magic that had been granted to the members of the church. Which meant that they were the only ones that were capable of dealing with it.
Seeing that everyone looked at him, the pope just simply shook his head and said, "I have received no revelation about this."
Grim looks appeared on their faces after they heard this.
The only one that seemed to know about this matter was the god that the church believed in, the one that had given them that warning along with the power to resist it.
So if they wanted answers, they had to ask that god.
Only who could actually ask a god for answers?
"I will pray and see if our god will deem us worthy of receiving their guidance."
Everyone scoffed when they heard this since they didn’t believe that a simple prayer would be enough. However, they soon realized that they were completely wrong about this pope.
"The force that you have encountered is a blight on this world that seeks to destroy it. Unless it is stopped, it will keep destroying until the world itself is destroyed."
The moment that they heard this voice, all of the people in this room were shocked.
In fact, even the pope himself seemed shocked to hear this voice.
But the pope was the one that came back to his senses first as he said, "Your eminence, thank you for gracing us with your presence."
At this, the others in the room also recovered.
Though from the looks on their faces, it didn’t seem like they were as accepting of this as the pope was.
It was understandable that they didn’t feel the same way since it had just been foretold that there would be a bloody battle for survival. Not to mention that the only way to deal with the enemy was to use the power of this god.
To these people that led their nations, they naturally thought of costs and benefits.
They thought about the things that would benefit their people and their own positions the most.
There was no doubt that they would be in a very passive position if this was the case.
"Heroes will awaken in times of crisis and guide the people to victory. Seek them out and help them fight against the enemy."
Once they heard this, all of them couldn’t help deeply knitting their brows again.
There were many different questions that were asked since they had all come back to their senses now, but it didn’t seem like there was going to be an answer. The voice that had echoed in their heads didn’t say anything else in response to their questions.
As such, all of the people in the room naturally turned to the pope.
However, the pope was prepared this time.
With a backer like this, how could he back down in the face of these people?
"Their eminence has already given their prophecy, is there anything else that you need?"
The leaders naturally weren’t happy to hear this, but they knew that there was nothing that they could do. The other side was a god, was it even possible to do anything to a god that they couldn’t even see?
At the very least, it seemed like this god wasn’t against the people that lived in this world.
It seemed like this was a benevolent god that cared for the people of this world.
Perhaps it was because they viewed the people of this world as their own children.
However, the one thing that they cared about the most was the fact that the god never mentioned that the heroes would belong to the church. It seemed like these heroes would appear among the people of their nations.
As long as they were able to find the heroes first, then they would be able to control them or at least win them over to their side.
"I propose a union of nations be established while we face this enemy."
It was an unanimous decision in the end.
