Chapter 1151 - 1140: Valuing Daughters Over Sons
Chapter 1151 - 1140: Valuing Daughters Over Sons
Han Hui and Ye Peilin eventually sold the house. Ye Qing made a fuss twice in between, but her name wasn’t on the property deed, so what was the use?
After the house was sold, Han Hui swiftly repaid the three hundred thousand to Uncle Ye and bought numerous things for the four elderly people, finally feeling at peace. With the remaining money, they purchased a smaller house in their original neighborhood. However, fearing they might need urgent cash, they didn’t pay in full. They both sighed, reflecting that after striving for most of their lives, they still had to pay a mortgage.
Afterwards, they made sure to follow through with what they told their daughter Ye Qing, even when Ye Qing and Cao Wentao used their child as an excuse, they remained firm.
Initially, Cao Wentao had some patience, but gradually, realizing he could no longer gain benefits from the Ye Family, he began to treat Ye Qing indifferently, even deceiving her into signing a loan contract with a huge amount.
It was a year later when Han Hui and Ye Peilin saw their daughter again. They couldn’t believe that the tired and aged woman before them was the daughter they had cherished for thirty years.
"Dad, Mom, Wentao deceived me. He tricked me into divorcing him and saddled me with the debts, even refusing to take the child. I have nowhere to go." Ye Qing, wearing a wrinkled shirt and dusty shoes, held the hand of her equally unkempt child, avoiding the gaze of Han Hui and Ye Peilin.
The couple’s hearts ached intensely as they looked at their daughter and grandson, no matter how much they said Ye Qing needed a lesson, no matter how harsh their words, she was the daughter they had cherished on their hearts’ altar for thirty years. They never imagined their daughter would become like this.
"That heartless Cao Wentao, he’s a swindler! He deceived me the whole time, Dad, Mom, he also burdened me with two million in debt, what should I do?" Ye Qing cried, her eyes void of the proud confidence they once held.
"It’s okay, since he cheated you into marriage, we’ll sue him." Han Hui, heartbroken, embraced her daughter, tears streaming down.
"It’s useless." Ye Qing mumbled, "I signed the papers myself, he has surveillance video evidence, if I don’t repay the debt, those people will kill me, they truly will."
"Do they dare? It’s a society governed by law now." Ye Peilin spoke with confidence, yet he felt uncertain inside. He couldn’t believe his daughter was foolish enough to fall into Cao Wentao’s trap. He really wanted to shake his daughter’s head, asking her what was she thinking? Was she blinded by love?
"They also said they’d send me to prison. Dad, I don’t want to go to jail, I don’t want to, can you help me, can you help?" Ye Qing’s face was pale, her eyes filled with fear, one could imagine what she had gone through this year to transform from her former proud self to this.
"Why didn’t you have a little more sense? Why did you go along with whatever he asked you to do? What about Yun Yun, Yun Yun, he doesn’t care either?" Han Hui couldn’t comprehend, she wanted to slap her daughter but couldn’t bring herself to do it, only felt angry and heartbroken on her own.
"He doesn’t want Yun Yun anymore; he said he’s going abroad and challenged me to sue him. Mom, I loved him so much, how could he be so heartless!" Ye Qing gripped Han Hui’s arm, hate glowing in her eyes.
"It’s our fault for not seeing through people, your brother warned us about Cao Wentao’s character from the start, but none of us listened to him. If only we knew, if only..." Han Hui sighed heavily.
Yet, what use is blaming now? Who in the family trusted their son then? Instead, they doubted his intentions, thinking he was jealous that his sister found a good boyfriend, fearing his brother-in-law would outshine him.
And the truth? The son progressed rapidly, whereas the son-in-law turned out to be a boastful and unreliable man, not only swindling all of the family’s assets but turning their daughter into her present state. Why didn’t they take their son’s advice to assess Cao Wentao for a longer time back then?
"Right, brother, Mom, let’s ask Ye Qiu for help. Two million is a small amount for him, as long as he’s willing to offer assistance, I’ll definitely be okay. Dad, Mom, can we ask little brother for help?" Ye Qing suddenly seemed to grasp hope, her eyes filled with anticipation as she looked at the couple.
But Han Hui and Ye Peilin lowered their heads simultaneously, displaying disapproval.
"Qingqing, this is your issue, it has nothing to do with your brother. Considering what we’ve done to him, how do we have the face to ask him for help?" Han Hui said, her gaze full of desolation.
"So you’d rather watch me die?" Ye Qing said angrily, "I know I’ve wronged him before, but I can make it up, as long as he helps clear the debt, I swear I’ll be a good sister, I’ll deliver packages for him, I’ll buy milk tea, I’ll do whatever he asks."
"Calm down." Ye Peilin reprimanded, looking at his daughter with deeply disappointed eyes, "Your brother’s money is his own; no one has the right to demand it. Haven’t you realized your mistake after such a huge lesson?"
"Then what do I do? Am I really going to jail?" Ye Qing cried out in despair, "I don’t want to go to jail, I don’t!"
"If you don’t want to go to jail, why were you so stupid? Call the police, report it right now, no matter what evidence Cao Wentao has, just insist he tricked you into signing the loan."
"It’s useless." Ye Qing clutched her head, "The contract is long gone; those people only have the IOU with my fingerprint now."
"Do you have no sense of caution at all? How could you be so foolish!" Ye Peilin was exasperated.
"Enough." Han Hui couldn’t stand seeing her daughter being reprimanded by her husband, "Since it’s already happened and Qingqing knows she’s wrong, we should think about how to resolve this, rather than blame her. Yun Yun’s watching; he’s so young, do you want him to have a psychological shadow?"
Ye Peilin smoked as he looked at his frightened little grandson and ultimately said nothing more.
"Why don’t we call Ye Qiu?" After a long pause, Han Hui hesitated.
Ye Peilin immediately refuted, "Call him for what? We’ve never treated him right before, and now run to him for help, I wouldn’t do such a thing."
"We don’t need to borrow money, just ask for advice on handling this. He has lawyers, connections; maybe he can relieve Qingqing’s debt and make Cao Wentao pay."
"Yes, Dad, little brother surely has a way. Please help, it’s two million; if I go to prison, my life is over." Ye Qing implored.
Ye Peilin smoked silently, ultimately not voicing opposition.
