Chapter 271: If You Insist
Chapter 271: If You Insist
"Send everyone there immediately."
"Yes boss!"
The moment the call ended, Darius vanished.
BOOOOM!
The street outside exploded apart from the force of his movement while people screamed as a blur shot across rooftops.
He moved like a monster unleashed scaling buildings, traffic and roads... nothing slowed him down.
His thoughts spiraled violently the entire way. ’Who did this? Rivals? Debt collectors? A foreign gang?’
Were his children crying right now? Were they hurt?
Every possible scenario made his rage grow worse and by the time he reached the resort district, the pressure radiating from him was already terrifying.
The resort was absurdly luxurious with a gigantic glass structure overlooking almost the entirety of Misty High.
Waterfalls ran along the outer architecture while golden lights illuminated elegant balconies and rooftop gardens.
Ordinary people couldn’t even afford a single night here.
The moment Darius sensed the presence of his family, he moved.
BOOOOOOM!
The side of the skyscraper cracked as Darius launched upward.
In three leaps, he had already scaled more than seventy percent of the three hundred storey building.
And in five seconds, he practically scaled the entire building, landing at the very top.
THOOM~
The rooftop was beautiful with open-air and smooth marble floors.
Tall decorative lanterns glowing softly around shallow reflective pools while flower petals drifted gently through the evening breeze.
An infinity-edge view overlooked the entirety of Misty High beneath the night sky and at the center was an elegant dining table.
Seated around that table was his family, completely unharmed.
His daughter immediately lit up upon his arrival. "DADDY!"
She jumped up instantly and rushed toward him happily.
Darius caught her automatically while his wife smiled warmly as she stood to her feet.
"Honey..." She walked over and kissed his cheek lovingly before kissing his lips.
"Aww... you really shouldn’t have."
Darius blinked slowly in confusion. "...What?"
She laughed softly. "West from your gang told us everything."
His expression changed immediately. ’West? Who the hell is that?’
"The secret vacation," she looked genuinely touched. "I’ve been talking about wanting something like this for over a month..."
Her eyes softened lovingly. "You’re so sweet."
Darius slowly looked past her and spotted the masculine figure standing near the table with his back facing him.
The figure in black long coat finally turned around with a calm expression and a slight smirk.
Darius immediately recognised this person... ’The leader of Shadow Reapers.’
"Welcome boss," West said casually.
"As per your request, I brought them here safely and made sure they were comfortable."
Darius immediately stiffened as his branches instinctively activated beneath his skin.
Pressure exploded silently around him but his wife noticed nothing while West did.
He smiled slightly wider while looking over to the excited children.
"Dad! This place is awesome!"
"There’s a heated pool!"
"They brought us so much food!"
"And West is so cool!"
Darius stared at West while trying to control the suffocating pressure he was emitting.
"What..." he voiced in a dangerously low tone. "...are you doing?"
West simply walked closer casually and hugged Darius tightly like a loyal subordinate greeting his superior.
"Thank you boss," West smiled warmly for the family to see.
"This is the least I could do after you helped me blend into the gang as a newcomer."
The wife covered her mouth softly. "Aww..."
The children smiled brightly too while West leaned closer slightly and whispered directly into Darius’ ear.
"You don’t want to do this in front of the kids."
Darius’ body instantly tensed as West continued softly.
"Now be a good little boy and let me thank you properly for what you did all those years ago..."
The smile on West’s face sharpened slightly. "...if you don’t want your family getting hurt."
Pat~
Pat~
West gently patted the back of Darius’ head twice like calming an angry animal before adding one final thing.
"Oh," he whispered in a light tone. "Call off your gang members."
For a moment, Darius genuinely considered killing him anyway.
The rooftop trembled slightly from the pressure leaking out of his body but then, his daughter suddenly pulled his sleeve innocently.
"Dad?" her tiny voice instantly pulled him out of acting thoughtlessly.
Darius looked down at her and at his son, then his wife, realizing how unaware and vulnerable they were.
West had played this perfectly.
Darius slowly unclenched his fists while veins bulged violently along his arms.
His jaw looked like it might crack from how hard he was grinding his teeth but he had no choice.
He pulled out his phone and made the call. "Stand down."
His subordinates sounded confused immediately.
"Boss? But—"
"I said stand down."
Silence~
"...Yes boss."
West continued smiling pleasantly because to everyone else, it looked like a wholesome interaction between gang members but Darius knew the truth...
The only thing he didn’t know was why West was doing this.
Every second Darius stood there, he wanted to tear West apart but every time his eyes moved toward his children, he stopped.
So when West stepped back and casually said; "Oh, if you need anything I’ll be around. I’m here to make sure you all have a great time."
Darius immediately saw the opening. ’Good... leave... go... disappear... then I’ll find you later...’
He opened his mouth to further push the incentive. "I’m sure you have things to attend—"
But before he could finish, Yelena suddenly clapped softly.
"Oh no," she smiled warmly. "Let West join us."
Darius froze while the children immediately lit up.
"Yes!"
"Join us!"
"Please!"
West turned with almost suspiciously perfect timing.
"Oh?" he looked modest. "No no, I wouldn’t want to intrude..."
A soft smile instantly grazed his face. "...but if you insist."
He looked toward Yelena. "Thank you, Mrs. Yelena."
Yelena smiled in response. She was really a strikingly tall woman with long blonde hair that flowed over her shoulders. Even dressed casually, she carried herself with a certain regal composure.
Her sharp features were softened by warm eyes, smooth skin touched by sunset tones, and the sort of presence that made people unconsciously pay attention when she entered rooms.
She laughed softly. "Please. Just Yelena."
