Chapter 218: New Emplyees
Chapter 218: New Emplyees
hree days went by, and the shop became the absolute ruler in Dewhurst. Whether it was the potions or artefacts, neither Elven Potion nor Grand Spire, none of them could compare to Heaven’s Door. All this was because of the upcoming entrance exam of the World Magic Alliance Academy. The Grand Spire branch inside Dewhurst was closed for an undetermined period of time, while Elven Potion’s price was not that anyone could afford. However, when Kadyn came into the picture, everything changed.
Other than that a talk of Birdman spread throughout Dewhurst. The killer of the Grand Spire branch’s manager. They said he had a bird with crimson eyes, dark feathers, vicious claws, and a beak sharper than a vulture. It controlled fire and had a strength of hundred elephants, though its size was nothing to be bragged about, as it always sat on Birdman’s shoulder.
Kadyn laughed out loud when he heard about the rumour, while Alerathla grumbled indignantly for portraying her cute self as a cruel and vicious beast. But there was a smile on her face, indicating that she enjoyed this weird—and fierce—reputation of being a villain.
However, soon the talk about the Birdman vanished, as the World Magic Alliance Academy’s entrance exam began. At first Kadyn cared a little about the entrance exam. However, two days before the competition, the system gave him a mission.
[Quest: Earn one million shims in this competition.]
[Reward: A wish. Remain in your limit, or you won’t gain a penny.]
"..."
Kadyn was troubled by this as he made no preparation for it. However, at that time, Cecelia gave him an idea. "Why don’t we set up a betting booth?" she said. "I didn’t have anything to do, so I collected information about the strongest participants. I think we can earn a big time through this opportunity."
Kadyn immediately agreed as he had no better idea which could earn him a million. Therefore he sent Dion and Cecelia, with a few other helpers, to set up a booth for betting, and he remained in the shop.
Only late at night, they returned, with smiling faces. And immediately Kadyn heard a notification inside his head.
[Congratulations! You have completed the quest.]
[Reward: You can ask for your wish whenever you want, but remember the warning.]
Kadyn checked his status and found over ten thousand energy points had been added. He nodded pleasantly before sending a thousand points in Cecelia’s account while eight hundred in Dion’s. After all she was the one who collected all the information about the participants. There were others, new recruits, and Kadyn rewarded them also. Enough to make them happy.
Kadyn looked at Cecelia and Dion on the other side of the dining table and said, "Thanks for your hard work today, guys."
"It was quite fun actually," commented Dion, stuffing a toast into his mouth, "Sister Cecelia’s intelligence was so accurate that it was shocking. It was like she had fixed the outcome prior to the competition."
Cecelia appeared calm, but the glimmer inside his eyes told another story. Kadyn had lived long enough with her, and he knew her quite well.
He nodded and said, "Actually we’ve enough money to buy a better shop, and at a better place than Dewhurst. What do you say, guys?"
It was Hot Rod who spoke first. "I don’t think it would be a good idea. We have just established ourselves at this place, we have a good number of customers now, but if we leave this place then we have to start over at a new place. That would be foolish."
Cecelia agreed with Hot Rod. Therefore, Kadyn dropped the idea, at least, for the time being.
Kadyn thought for a brief moment about what wish could he make to the system, but he couldn’t come up with something decent. Therefore, he dropped the idea for an undetermined period of time.
The night passed as the ball of fire appeared on the horizon, with the chirping of birds and the fresh morning breeze. Kadyn took a deep breath and looked at the people caring for the herbs in the garden. Whenever he found a new herb he planted it in his garden that made things very convenient for him. He could purchase metals and other things—things that lacked life—from his Illusory Shop, but he could not do the same for the herbs. However, as the shop upgraded, the garden also upgraded and the time that needed to mature the herbs decreased significantly. Otherwise, it would have made things very ugly.
Though the shop was just at the 4 rank, he could not plant rank 5 herbs (he could plant but they would take forever to mature, or they would just die) in the garden.
Kady stretched and walked towards the shop. He was greeted by younger recruits on the way and went on with a kind smile on his face. He always treated his people with kindness and all of them were now his people. Though most of them were not as talented as Kadyn hoped them to be, he could always turn them into geniuses. They just needed to work hard and they would have their chance.
"Mr. Kadyn..."
Kadyn lifted his head and looked at the speaker. A smile appeared on his face. The speaker was Gelna, wearing a black hat and her two cute ears were visible over the hat. Behind her were two fox sisters. However, their expressions were gloomy and pale.
"Mr. Kadyn—"
"Oh, come on!" Kadyn said. "Call me Boss like always."
"Yes, Boss, we are—"
"I won’t ask you what happened," Kadyn waved his hand, interrupting Gelna once more. "I already knew it would happen. I found you quite pleasing to the eyes, that’s why I offered you a job. My offer is still available—if you want to accept my offer, welcome."
There were tears in Gelna’s eyes when she heard him. She knew he needn’t say that, but he did, just because he didn’t want to embarrass her and others.
"Hey, don’t cry," Kadyn said. "Come. Let’s sign a contract."
