Chapter 277: The Water Attack_Part 1
Viola had never been to Zoe’s fashion house despite having been in Silver for months now, as it was tucked away on the other side of the city where the pack’s industrial buildings and companies were located.
She’d seen pictures of it in fashion magazines and on screens but seeing it in person was even much better. It was a sleek glass ten story building with a large glass sign at the top that said, [Zo Fashion House] in bold letters.
They exited the cars they had driven in and entered the building, where bodyguards stood at every corner, and no one was allowed access without first identifying themselves.
The building was not only a fashion house; it also contained a boutique that sold all of Zoe’s design collections, from bags to shoes and dresses.
Viola looked around as they were led into the glass elevator, which gave them a clear view of the different floors as it ascended. The lower levels held her showroom, boutique, and offices, while the middle floors housed design studios, private fitting rooms, and photography spaces that looked far more elegant than anything Viola had ever seen in her life. There was nothing remotely like this in Moonwillow, not even close.
At the very top was the luxury penthouse, with two more apartments beneath it, where Zoe led them after they stepped out of the elevator. She unlocked the penthouse using the eye scanner installed for security purposes and gestured for the three of them to enter.
"Welcome to my little coven!" she said, opening her arms invitingly as she welcomed them inside with a smile.
This was her private space, and apart from Nick, she had not brought many people here. Even her brother had only stepped foot inside once, back during the period when she had practically cut off all connection with him because of his reckless, ruthless behavior.
Now that she was having guests over, she found herself oddly anxious to please them and make them feel comfortable, especially Gilbert, whom she knew looked down on her profession and did not regard it with the same seriousness as his medical career.
Viola, who had already seen so much of the elegant building on their way up, would never have associated such a place with the word little. It was far beyond little and even more luxurious than the penthouse in High Tower.
No wonder Zoe was the biggest fashion designer in the entire werewolf world. She had made a name for herself since she was a teenager, and Viola could not help but admire the amount of hard work and passion poured into everything around her.
At the same time, it made her reflect on her own life and how many years she had spent trying to please others instead of building something for herself and learning independence the way Zoe had.
Zoe’s passion for her work showed in every part of the building, and Viola found herself genuinely in awe of it. Apart from music, she had never really discovered something she loved that deeply, and even her love for music had slowly begun fading into the background of her life over the years.
Meanwhile, Zoe had built an entire life for herself away from her brother’s shadow and had grown into someone capable of standing firmly on her own.
And now she was proudly showing it all to them, exactly as she deserved to.
Viola could not help feeling genuine admiration and pride for her friend.
Doctor Gilbert, who had never set foot anywhere near the fashion house, was completely taken aback by what he saw. "You have a lovely place, Miss Zoe." He said sincerely and Zoe flushed before she caught herself and composed her expression.
"Thank you."
"I’m impressed, Zoe. I didn’t realize this much work went on inside Zo Fashion House," Matt remarked with genuine admiration, realizing that the little girl they had all practically helped raise after she lost her mother in infancy was no longer a little girl at all and now owned something this remarkable.
Though the inside of the penthouse was a little too girlish for his taste, he still found it oddly adorable.
He hadn’t been in here before, and perhaps he hadn’t seen her fully as an adult because he had witnessed all the stages of her growing up and every tantrum she had thrown to get what she wanted in their lives.
"Well, thank you. Make yourselves at home. Vee, you can take the room next to mine. Put her things there." She told the bodyguard carrying the Luna’s bags.
"No wonder you always go back and forth from the High Tower, you have an even lovelier place here." Viola muttered, taking in the living room décor that spoke so much of her friend, from the designs to the pink sofa and rug. Even the glass walls had a tint of pink to them as they overlooked the city, where a screen was showcasing Javier’s face alongside Sebastian’s black and white picture.
"I used to like it here much better because it served as an escape from the High Tower and the main quarter that held too many memories I wanted to forget about Alex," Zoe said, hugging Viola from the side and exhaling softly. "But after you came to Silver, I started preferring to spend time with you instead. It’s good to have a friend who is now family."
Viola smiled warmly and slipped her arm around Zoe’s small waist, feeling her heart warm at the thought that they were indeed now family, and even best friends, something she had not experienced genuinely apart from her sister.
They both stood before the glass wall, staring out at the city screens as the sun set behind the horizon, welcoming the evening. The sky, which had been bright a while ago, was now heavy with dark clouds gathering at its edges, as though a rainstorm was slowly building, faint flashes of lightning flickering within it.
Viola stared at Sebastian’s black and white picture with the words rest in peace printed below it and felt a shudder move through her. It felt too real, too convincing, and watching it made something uncomfortable settle in her chest.
"Okay, I know what you are thinking, Vee. Let’s cover the glasses, I don’t like seeing my brother with a rest in peace on him." Zoe voiced it out and Viola let out a quiet laugh because they had been having the exact same thought at the exact same time.
Just as the rain began to fall lightly from the sky and dim the surroundings of the city lights outside, Zoe turned and had the house system draw the curtains across the glass walls while thunder rumbled in the background.
